Being Caught – A Guide for Prospective AV Stars Part Four

Harrows Entertainment - Original Japanese Date: November 3rd, 2015
English Translation Published: August 10th, 2016

Japanese AV agency HARROWS ENTERTAINMENT has a writeup on their site about how to avoid being caught as an AV star which now features an English translation.

(Translator's note: This post is a continuation of a previous entry.)

We're always here to provide advice in case you ever find yourself in a risky situation—be it a pattern described above or something else.  Even if you're still on the fence about appearing in AV, you can freely contact us with any questions or concerns.  We hope we can put you at ease so you can comfortably make the right choice!

Translator's thoughts:

The temptation to star in adult videos is strong.  The pay is fantastic compared to the slave labor rates young people in Japan receive.  On top of this, the treatment of actresses on set is akin to Hollywood divas.  Thus not only would a prospective AV star receive nice pay for a day's work, she's treated like a goddess because the success of a production mainly rides on her performance.

The big downside of course is being caught.  Japan is significantly more progressive when it comes to the public embracing the adult industry, but it's still shameful for most participants.  All actresses (as far as we know) use stage names and birth days are also almost always fudged.  AYU SAKURAI is one of the few actresses who claims to use her real birthday, but we're not holding our breath on that one.  Even actors use stage names though its easier for them to be caught since they generally stick around in the industry a lot longer.  We only know of one major AV actor who uses his real name and he's somewhat of an oddball.

HARROWS ENTERTAINMENT made a bold claim about the number of AV titles produced a month.  Even if they're talking about photo-books and print work, it's still hard to swallow their 5,000 to 6,000 figure.  We think it's closer to a 1,000 pieces of media if you add up everything, but if you strictly focus on adult video, you can cut that in half or even more.

In a future update at My Dearest Desire, we will talk more about the agencies of Japanese AV because they're another integral cog in the at-times incestuous relationship companies in this unique industry have.  They're also another reason why pay remains so high...but how much do the actresses actually receive?  You'd be surprised.
