Ayu Sakurai Interview Part One

XCity - Original Japanese Date: September 14th, 2015
English Translation Published: November 30th, 2015

Ayu Sakurai is an outgoing Japanese AV star who crashed into the industry with guns blazing and has been churning out titles nonstop for almost 3 years.

Ayu Sakurai has been a bona fied AV star for a little over 2 years. In that short period of time, she swiftly ascended the ranks into extreme stardom and has over 500 titles attributed to her persona. She even landed an exclusive contract with a major maker which is a lot harder than it sounds. In spite of her almost Cinderella-like experience as an AV star, she announced recently that she plans on retiring come March 2016.

Her sex is vivacious and incredibly naughty and we're surprised as anyone how someone this good at her vocation has decided to call it a day!

XCity: What made you decide to become a Japanese AV star?
Ayu Sakurai: I wanted to be famous for as long as I could remember. When I was younger I even auditioned very often for roles that would put me in the spotlight. However, my parents were strict and forbid me from working in Tokyo so I was stuck doing smaller modeling gigs in my hometown. I thought it was kind of scary doing things that would make you a public figure so even though I did some work, I opted not to do too much and that pretty much sums up my time as a pre-AV model. Also, after doing that I did spend some time doing other 'body work' which I haven't really publicized.

XC: 'Body work' you haven't publicized meaning…?
AS: This doesn't deal with my time as a model, but I also worked in a brothel.

Could this be a recreation of Ayu Sakurai's brothel days?

XC: Ah, that's fantastic…!
AS: I was reading AV magazines while working there. This was around the time Rina Katou was getting lots of space on the covers. “If a cute girl like that can proudly do AV then maybe there's a way for me...” was what I was thinking back then. Perhaps by fate or weird luck, someone I knew from Osaka asked if I was interested in entering the industry. Up to this point I've been catcalled on the street by scouts, but this was the first time somebody asked me bluntly if I wanted to do AV work. This time I agreed to do it and it led to an opportunity to sign on to the same agency that represented Rio (Tina Yuzuki). I'm a big fan of her because on top of doing AV, she even did some work on regular television which is something I'd like to try my hand at doing too.

XC: That's what I call really good timing.
AS: I agree! The timing was spot-on! My first title was with PRESTIGE. My time on that shoot was unique because I was not nervous at all. The director actually told me they wanted a more 'amateur performance' so I should act a bit more naive. He thought I did AV before! I mean, I was working in brothels, but that really was my first time doing AV. Since he asked for it, I put on my best amateur impression and went with it.

XC: It sounds like you had your acting ability down solid thanks to your time as a model and your experiences working in a brothel. I recall seeing your first title and it didn't seem like you were even close to being an amateur.
AS: Right? I enjoy acting and I've had lots of fun doing it in this industry. Offers have always been plentiful and I've been doing lots of work in Tokyo and home in Osaka as well.

XC: All that time traveling must take it's toll on you.
AS: Yea, I have been busy. In 2013 I barely had a day off. I think I was doing some type of work almost everyday! This isn't a complaint though. Conversely, I wanted to work and that's what I asked for and thankfully it's what I received. Besides, when I first came to Tokyo I had no friends so it wasn't like I had anything else to do. All that work without any rest did take its toll on me towards the end of 2013 so I kept more blanks in my schedule the following year.
