Driving Around Japanese Escorts?

All about the men who are assigned as drivers for Japanese delivery health escorts who take them to their locations and ensure their safety.

With the sales tax now at a whopping 8% (You think that's high...?) and salaries remaining stagnant, more and more people are considering taking on side-jobs. It may be come as a surprise, but some are even looking into working part time in Japan's always-booming adult business doing some light work. Could there really be job opportunities that pay well and are erotically fun? Let's find out!

Earn up to 80,000 yen a month doing essentially nothing-- the life of a part-time Japanese escort driver.

An easy way for men to get a foot into Japan's adult industry while staying proper is to be a driver for delivery health escorts. With the sharp rise in these types of outcall escort establishments (Translator's note: due to the hurdles of legally opening incall brothels such as soaplands and fashion healths), the time is ripe to land a job of a gentleman who drives escorts to and from their jobs.

I had the opportunity to sit in with a driver during one of his shifts.

The agency makes calls and tells them what hotel to station near and that's pretty much it. It's really simple. Customers don't like to be seen outside so the part where they may interact with us is very brief. To stay safe and efficient, we have a GPS system in place. In an hour a driver can be working with 4 or 5 escorts.” (N-san, the owner of a dispatch agency for escort drivers)

He goes on to mention that drives clocked in must diligently follow the rules of the road. Also, they must get along well with the escorts and their cars must always be spotless. These are the ironclad rules of the business. What's more, they need to keep an eye on the GPS to ensure the safety of the women. During the hiring process, they may be instructed by a higher-up coworker in the seat next to them to drive the quickest route to the hotel. It's eerily reminiscent of a driving school test.

It's also against the rules to try to enter into relationships with the escorts. They're coworkers after-all which can lead to prickly issues. Even touching of any kind is off-limits. What's allowed are greetings, light business chat, and nothing more.

This makes the job of driving around delivery health escorts for shifts up to 5 hours somewhat robotic. My trial finished up around 2AM and I made 1,500 yen an hour (approx. $15USD). Working 3 times a week like this can net a driver up to 80,000 yen, but the work seems so mentally draining...

All you need to get started is a license and skills behind the wheel. Some agencies require you to have your own car and others also make you pay for gasoline. Your mileage may vary.

(Translator's note: This is another gray area job a foreigner in Japan could possibly work at. It's connected to the adult industry, but you're essentially a glorified taxi cab driver. It sounds boring and almost certainly is. However, those skilled at multitasking could perhaps study Japanese or get some work done on a laptop while waiting for their assigned escorts to finish. You also need to know your way around the town's seedier areas extraordinarily well or your chances of being hired are nil.)
